About the Bass Player
Gary Garn, the bassist on the Walking Along with My Dog CD, has been dabbling in music most of his life.
At nine years of age, he started playing bass. He received his Bachelor of Science degree in music at Eastern Michigan University in 1982. He earned a Masters Degree in Education at EMU, specializing in Deaf Education, in 1986. In 1995, he earned an additional teaching endorsement in the Visually Impaired field from EMU Graduate School. In 1999, he completed the Graduate School program in the field of Orientation & Mobility for the Blind, at Michigan State University.
He and his wife, Bonnie, live in Sault Sainte Marie, Michigan, where he works as a Teacher Consultant for the hearing-impaired and/or visually impaired for the Eastern Upper Peninsula Intermediate School District, the district having the greatest expanse east of the Mississippi River. He also privately practices orientation and mobility for the Michigan Commission for the Blind.
On the side, he continues to dabble in several musical groups, including classical, bluegrass, jazz, country, swing, and rock genres. Playing music is his passion. Gratefully, the ISAHEALTH Fund was fortunate to secure Gary's talents in the Walking Along with My Dog CD project.
